World Cancer Day is a day that is celebrated every year to mark the importance of educating people about cancer and its impact on society. To commemorate this day, MNJ Institute of Oncology, in collaboration with Ignite IAS Hyderabad, organized various cancer awareness programs on the 4th of February 2023.

The programs kicked off at 6:30 AM with an educational awareness program at Khairatabad Basti, Public Garden and Nampally UPHC. This was followed by a FM radio program titled ‘Myth Busters’ which ran from 12PM to 1PM. Later in the afternoon, a cancer awareness program was organized at Govt Degree College Khairtabad. The event concluded with a flash mob at Prasad IMAX between 4:30 PM and 5:30 PM.

The students of Ignite IAS took active part in making the event a grand success. Their hard work and enthusiasm was evident throughout the entire duration of the event, and they were praised for their dedication to create awareness about cancer in society. They were instrumental in spreading information about the symptoms of cancer, ways to prevent it as well as tips for early detection and treatment options available for those who have been diagnosed with it. The students also distributed pamphlets and other materials to help spread their message further.

This initiative taken by MNJ Institute of Oncology and Ignite IAS Hyderabad is appreciable as it brought out an important issue into focus—that no one should be ashamed or scared if they are diagnosed with cancer due to lack of knowledge or understanding about it—and provided some much-needed information about how to manage it properly when required, without any stigma attached to it.

Overall, the World Cancer Day celebrations put together by MNJ Institute of Oncology and Ignite IAS Hyderabad were both informative and successful. It is hoped that similar efforts will be made every year so that more people can be educated on this critical issue facing our world today.

Chitam Srinivasa Reddy, Director of Ignite IAS Hyderabad appreciated students for Volunteering for the event and promoting awareness about cancer to people in Hyderabad on world cancer day.
